Yamato Area Gujo Shunsai-kan Yamato-no-asaichi (Gujo Yamato Morning Market)
Getting busy from the early morning on weekends!
Plenty of local seasonal agricultural products are available!
On weekends, we recommend visiting Gujo Shunsai-kan Yamato-no-asaichi (Gujo Yamato Morning Market) next to Roadside Station Kokindenju-no-sato Yamato. It is located about 300m from National Highway 156. This morning market is crowded with many locals and tourists.
If you come here, you can find all the delicious foods in Gujo! Not only fresh vegetables, but also wild meat and river fish, which are both rare in the city, ready-to-eat side dishes, cooked rice, sweets, and other products made with local ingredients can all be found in the market! Among them, there are also special products for women, such as organic cosmetics and soap made from plants cultivated in Gujo Yamato, and Amazake (Sweet drink made from fermented rice) with herbs. They also sell mountain plants and handmade crafts. All these are recommended as local souvenirs. Behind the morning market, there is also a large house where you can find flower seedlings, vegetable seedlings, pots, and foliage plants.
Wild plants and seedlings in spring, corn in summer, Gujo Ayu (Sweetfish), new rice and pears in autumn, rice cakes and vegetables in winter can all be found in this morning market. Products change every time you come. Even if you don’t know how to cook these vegetables, try to ask those who work at the store and take recipe cards distributed in the store. Meeting local people who teach you how to eat delicious food is also a pleasure experience at a local morning market. After shopping, you can spend a whole day with your family by enjoying lunch at the adjacent roadside station, taking a break in the footbath, and feeding carps with your kids.
