As introduced above, Gujo Hachiman has a long history as a castle town, and has preserved the old townscape, old lifestyle with water, and many precious temples. We are enthusiastically working on preservation and restoration of modern architecture. There are many unique buildings which have been added with new value. The first one is the Gujo Hachiman Museum. It is a two-story wooden Western-style building built in 1920. It was used as a tax office at that time. After becoming a Cultural Property of Hachiman-cho in 1987, it was opened as a museum. The exhibition is introducing all four themes, History, Relationship between water and people, Techonology and art, and Gujo Odori Dance. Gujo Odori Dance is demonstrated every day. Staff wearing Yukata (Casual & informal cotton kimono) introduces the stories of 10 kinds of dances for about 15 minutes, four times a day, so you can experience Gujo Odori Dance all year round. There is also a shop where you can find Gujo specialties, Gujo dance goods, and Geta (Wooden clogs). It is a museum filled with all the charm and fun of the town.

Former Hachiman Government Building Memorial Hall is located at the foot of Shinbashi Bridge in the center of the city acting as Gujo Hachiman Tourist Information Center. This building was built in 1936 and was used as Hacihman-cho government office until 1994. In 1998, it was designated as a National Registered Cultural Property, and the following year it was renewed to its current form. It is a two-story wooden Western style building with a heavy entrance on the front and south sides, and the walls are made of wood with long neat windows are impressive. This truss construction method, which was the latest technology at that time, was used for the roof construction. Other than tourist information center, it also has a free rest area, a specialty shop, and a restaurant, making it perfect for taking a break while gathering information. In addition, at Kawasaki Hall on the 2nd floor, a dance class is held by appointment every year from July to September to coincide with the opening of Gujo Odori Dance Festival. In addition, plaza in front of this building is the most important dance stage of Gujo Odori Dance Festival and is a symbolic space of Gujo Hachiman. Former Hachiman Government Building Memorial Hall plays an active role as a base for sightseeing in the castle town. If you want to walk around Gujo Hachiman, why not start here first?
