Motai Workshop (Tofu Manufacturer)
A tofu shop in the mountain.
Our main product, Motai smoked tofu, is said that it was manufactured by refugees who escaped from the war. At that time, Kamakura Kaido was located in Motai area, and it was crowded with lots of tourists coming and going. However, trip climbing over the mountains at that time was fatal, you would get lost, get hungry, and get sick. Therefore, smoked tofu using a large amount of soybeans fumigated in the hearth for a long time, provides high nutritional value, longevity, and less weight was made. This tofu is still being made in the form of smoked tofu, which is unique in Japan. How about trying a smoked dofu made from cherry chips and local Gujo miso, for a snack of sake?
